Education has always been a priority for Mahendra. After completing his schooling in Kolkata, he pursued Production Engineering at the esteemed Birla Institute of Technology, Ranchi. His intellectual contributions were recognized with the prestigious MIE (Member Of Institution Of Engineers) award for his technical papers presented at various forums.

Born into a family of renowned Transporters, Mahendra Arya hails from a lineage recognized as pioneers in road transport services. The family business, M/s Economic Transport Organisation, stood as one of India’s earliest and most reputable transport companies. Mahendra Arya served as a partner until 2004 when he embarked on his own entrepreneurial journey, establishing Sri Srinivasa Roadlines in 1997. Today, he successfully manages all logistics operations on the National Circuit, leaving an indelible mark on the industry.

Mahendra’s leadership abilities naturally propelled him to serve the transport community. He held prominent positions as the General Secretary and later as the President of the Bombay Goods Transport Association (BGTA). During his tenure, he was appointed to a government committee tasked with formulating the modalities of the Service Tax system for Goods Transport Companies. The committee’s report was widely accepted, benefiting the entire transport industry.

Known for his commitment to safety and security, Mahendra implemented the night escort scheme in collaboration with the Maharashtra Government on targeted highways. This initiative resulted in the near eradication of highway crimes, effectively safeguarding truckers and their cargo.

His contributions extend beyond regional boundaries. Mahendra Arya served as a managing committee member of national associations like AIMTC (All India Motor Transport Congress) and AITWA (All India Transport Welfare Association) for several years. From 2019 to 2022, he held the esteemed position of National President at AITWA, spearheading the Highway Heroes project—a nationwide drive for the welfare of truck drivers.

Socially active on the platform of Lions International, Mahendra Arya has held various positions within the NGO, dedicating his efforts to serving society in numerous ways.

As President of the Indian Road Transport Development Association (IRTDA), a research institute, Mahendra introduced the Carriage By Road Index (CRI). This innovative index, developed by him, monitors changes in transportation costs as a time series, with January 2016 serving as its base year. Recognized nationally, the index is published monthly in reputable transportation journals.

Beyond his entrepreneurial pursuits and leadership roles, Mahendra Arya is an accomplished writer, sincere poet, and eloquent orator in both Hindi and English languages. Many of his literary works have been published as books and recorded as audio CDs.
